The New York Times offered this list of the Top 10 Hotels in New York City that offer rooms for under $250 dollars a night.
I have been in the Chelsea Hotel, used to live down the street from it, and it is a icon for the artistic set. The other hotels are new to me. Of course, when I lived in Manhattan, no one would ever stay in the Time Square area. Update: We just were informed that the Chelsea Hotel has a weblog, they do earn the mantle of “Very Cool”.

The Hudson Hotel also has a really cool ‘comfort food’ restaurant with big picnic tables. And a really hip bar.
This is an Ian Schrager property — think South Beach (Miami Beach) Art Deco.
