UPDATE: AP; Midwest Air plane prepares for emergency landing
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Midwest Airlines passenger plane with 90 passengers and crew on board was preparing to make an emergency landing in Boston on Tuesday after witnesses noted sparks from the rear of plane shortly after takeoff, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority said there was a possible problem with the Boeing 717’s right landing gear and that it was expected to land by 9:45 p.m. EST (0245 GMT).
He said the plane, Midwest Flight 210 from Boston to Milwaukee, had been circling over Boston to burn off fuel for about an hour and that it was expected to make a safe landing.
“This sounds precautionary,” the spokesman said.
UPDATE II: Plane with apparent landing gear problem lands safely at Boston airport
A jetliner with a landing gear problem landed safely at Logan International late Tuesday after circling the airport for several hours.
Sparks could be seen coming from an area near the right landing gear as the plane landed just before 10 p.m., but the plane came to a stop without incident.
